Review: CM Storm Recon Mouse by Cooler Master

The CM Storm Recon Mouse by Cooler Master is an entry level ambidextrous gaming mouse. It uses an Avago 3090 Sensor for perfect pin point accuracy up to 60 IPS or 20g! Now that’s fast! The Avago 3090 sensor allows for on the fly switching between 4 different DPI Settings 800, 1600, 3200, 4000. There are a lot of other mice out there with higher price points that use the same or even lower grade sensors. The Recon also uses a pair Omron Micro switches; insuring that every button press equals a kill.

The Looks

The Recon is nice looking with a matte black finish and glowing CMSTORM Logo on the back. The bottom half is a matte gun metal gray. When you change between DPI settings you see 3 different colors. For the lowest setting of 800 the LED is off, 1600 is RED, 3200 is green, 4000 is Blue. This is great for on the fly switching when changing weapons in hard core battles. Everyone knows a steadier hand is needed with a sniper rifle and a High DPI for fast action shots.

The Feel

The matte black finish on this mouse is a rubberized coating giving you a firm grip. I also think the lower half is rubberized as well, hard to tell cause it’s a metallic gun metal gray. The mouse feels nice and slides great with 1 large U shaped mouse skate on the front and two smaller ones on the back. The smoothness was consistent on both my CM Storm Control-RX and my Razer Goliathus Speed mouse pads.

      The Bad

Being right handed, the only downside to the Recon I could find was the fact that it’s ambidextrous buttons on the right hand side seemed to bug me, but keep in mind I have large hands. After using the mouse for a week, I got used to it. But most people buying this mouse might not have this issue.

      Conclusion

The CM Storm Recon is a great mouse, and if you love to play with your left or your right, or if your one of the lucky few who can play with either hand then this mouse is for you. It’s also great fun to try and play left handed, you never know you might actually win! With the Recon coming in at $39.99, and actually Newegg has a $10 rebate right now right now, you just can’t pass this up at under $30. I give the Recon mouse a 4 out of 5 stars.
